Understanding how competitors and industry leaders use color is one of the most valuable inputs to palette design. PaletteRx's URL extraction feature analyzes any website and identifies its color palette, saving hours of manual eyedropper work.
How Extraction Works
PaletteRx scans the target site's CSS, inline styles, and computed styles to identify all unique color values in use. It then deduplicates near-identical colors (within a small tolerance), groups them by role (backgrounds, text, accents), and presents the extracted palette for your analysis.
Competitive Analysis Use
Extract palettes from your top 5 competitors. Compare them side by side. Look for patterns: does the entire industry use blue? Are warm accents common or rare? Where is the differentiation opportunity? This analysis takes 10 minutes and provides data-driven direction for your own palette choices.
Redesign Audit Use
Before redesigning a site, extract its current palette. Count how many unique colors are in production. Compare against the documented brand palette. The gap between "intended palette" and "actual palette" reveals the scope of the color sprawl problem that the redesign needs to address.
Inspiration Use
Found a website with a beautiful color treatment? Extract its palette, study the relationships, and understand what makes it work. You should not copy palettes directly, but understanding how effective palettes are structured informs your own design decisions.
